There are infra-red keyboards with built in trackballs which people seem to use for living room PC's. I think that a keyboard is too much for what I want to do most of the time. Mostly I will be listening to music, playing DVDs or doing very simple Web stuff.
For the music and film stuff a simple remote like the Irman is easily good enough. And I have already built a simple remote app to control Winamp and a DVD player using it.
For the web browsing much more thought is required if I am not going to have a keyboard. With newer web browsers you hardly have to type anything, normally just your search. I think I could cope with just the number pad for letters so 1 does 1-A-B-C Like on mobile phones, or an on screen keyboard and then use the number pad on the remote as a mouse (like mousekeys).
I'm getting started on this at last, will post code when I have something that I'm happy with.
